Spicy Turkey Chili
Now that it’s Fall my heart can rejoice and so can my taste buds! With cooler weather comes warmer dishes. One of my favorite Fall entrees is spicy turkey chili. Not only does it beat the pants off of the old fashion chili but its healthier! Once you try this recipe you won’t go back! I promise you won’t miss beef either.
The one reason I love this recipe so much is that it’s a crockpot recipe. I absolutely love adding things to the crockpot setting the timer and coming back hours later to a delicious meal. There just something about prepping a meal in the morning and not having to worry about what we are having for dinner later. Plus clean up has already been done making dinner that much more enjoyable.
To start this amazing chili recipe I first chopped a small onion then sautéed it with garlic in a tablespoon of olive oil. Sauté until the onion is tender, once it is ready add it right to the crockpot.
Then I added everything else to the crockpot that didn’t need to be cooked. I like to add the diced tomatoes and rotel next and stir everything together.
Next I move onto the ground turkey. I tend to buy the 90/10 lean to fat ratio to give it a little more favor. But this recipe works great with the 94/6 ratio too! Just depends on how healthy your trying to be. After the ground turkey is fully cooked I add in the chili seasoning. I like to use hot seasoning because it give it that extra kick. Its that extra kick that my family loves when it’s a cold fall day outside. Also this is the time to add in the salt, pepper, and red pepper. Stir until everything is incorporated.
Then I allow the meat to rest while I strain the 4 cans of beans and jalapeño peppers. I add all 4 cans of beans and jalapeno peppers into the crockpot. Again stir in all the ingredients.
Lastly I add the ground turkey to the crockpot. While I stir everything together I add the last tablespoon of olive oil to the mixture. I find the olive oil acts like the fat is normal beef chili and helps the seasoning stick to everything.
Once everything is combined I pop the top on the crockpot and set the timer. Either 4 hours on high or 8 hours on low. Depending on what time I get everything in the crockpot is usually what determines if I’m cooking it for 4 or 8 hours.
This is truly the best chili recipe I’ve found so far and I hope you and your family enjoy as much as we do!
