Turkey Mushroom Burgers with Caramelized onions

Wishing for summer with the weather being so bitter cold I decided to make a summery lunch.  Turkey burgers were the perfect fix.  Not only did it taste like summer the burgers were so easy to make.  I was able to make them and keep my 4-month-old son happy.  Every parent knows that not always an easy task.

I also made a Caesar salad to go along with the turkey burger.   Trying to keep it light.  The whole meal was very filling.  My husband helped out by making baked potatoes but there was no room in our tummies to fit them.  So it’s baked potatoes for dinner probably with a simple house salad.  Keeping it light.

For this perfect lunch you will need ground turkey.  I’m sure you could use ground chicken But I’m not sure it will have the same taste.  A small onion, waster sauce, breadcrumbs, mushrooms, salt, pepper garlic powder, and olive oil.

First I combined the ground turkey, waster sauce, breadcrumbs, mushrooms, salt, pepper, and garlic powder in a medium bowl.  Once everything’s combined you can form patties with the meat. I went for large patties but if you would like smaller go for it! That’s the joy of making your own burgers, you can make them as large or small as you prefer.

Next you want to slice the onion and place it in a small frying pan.  I started the caramelizing the onion about the same time that I started cooking the burgers.

The weather is bitter cold here in western New York so I used the stove top.  There was no way I was going to grill in 12-degree weather.  The burgers turned out great!  I’m sure they would have been just as yummy if they were grilled.  I’ll try that next time I make these, I’m sure the weather will be warmer.

Once the burgers are done and the onions are a golden brown it is time to assemble.  Like I said before I made these beauties with a side salad and was more then full.  I love ground turkey because it fills you up with out all the calories and grease of ground beef.
