Basic White Cake
This is my go to recipe for basic white cake. I found this recipe to be perfect when adding color to it to get those great bold colored cakes. The first time I tried this recipe I wasn’t sure I liked it because I was used to box cakes. But once I accepted it as a dense cake I rather enjoyed it. It reminds me of a sugar cookie in cake form.
I started by mixing the sugar, butter, and eggs together. Next I added buttermilk, vanilla, salt, vegetable oil, and baking powder. Once everything was well combined I slowly added the flour. This recipe makes about 6 cups of batter. Encase you are planning to divide it up to make multiple cakes. Lastly I add in color gel depending on what kind of cake I desire.
I baked the cake at 350 degrees for about 50 minutes. Once it passed the tooth pick test I took it out of the oven and let them cool before frosting.
